Good Friday

Good Friday- Observed by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.

Why Friday? It is believed that Christ died on a Friday. (John 19:42- There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.) Friday would have been the Jews' preparation day. We celebrate Easter on a Sunday, as it would have been the day that Christ rose from the grave. (Luke 24:46-He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day. Luke 18:33-they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”) Friday was the first day, Saturday the second, and Sunday the third.

Read about Christ's Death and Resurrection: Matthew, chapter 26-28

It is a gloomy, rainy, nasty day here. I wonder what the weather was like on the day of Christ's crucifixion. I do know it had to have been more gloomy than our weather outside, at least the atmosphere of the crowds. I can only imagine how it must have felt to be there in the crowd as this all went down. Some people were glad, some mournful, others mad. How would you feel if the One person who you KNEW was the Son of God was to be nailed to a cross and killed unmercifully? The soldiers mocked him, spit upon him, a crown of thorns were pushed into his skull. (Matthew 27:27-31; Matthew 26:67) I cannot help but to cry when reading the story of Christ's death. I can't help but think if I were there on that day, that I would have also been mocking Him. Jesus could have not been crucified. He was and IS the Son of God. Matthew 26:53- Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? This was to happen. Jesus died on the cross for us, to cover our sins. He could have had twelve legions of angels come and take Him from that place. He could have not gone through all the torture and mockery that He endured. But, He did.
Praise God that He did die on the cross for our sins. For it is only through His death that God is able to look at us and see Jesus Christ. If we believe that He is the Son of God, we have forgiveness of our sins, and will one day spend eternity in Heaven with Him. PRAISE GOD. GLORY IN THE HIGHEST!

Have a great Good Friday. May everything you do, be in praise and honor of Christ -our Risen Saviour! Read His story in Matthew 26-28 and be lifted up and lift praise to our Saviour, Jesus Christ. I pray that you would be blessed today and if you can, go and worship with other believers today as we celebrate Christ.
